Product Reviews

As a GF newbie back in February '09 the most frustrating thing for me was finding something I could eat.
My first trip to the grocery store had me in tears down aisle number 5 nearing the end of hour number two.
"There's gluten in chicken?!? Why on earth would you put gluten in chicken!?" I sobbed to my hub on the other end of the phone. I had been reduced to a sniveling pile of nothingness on the grocery store floor hiding behind my cart.

It got better.

We bought anything and everything with a GF label.
AND THIS PAGE IS HERE TO MAKE SURE YOU DON'T SUFFER THAT SAME MISTAKE!
I started out looking for things I could eat, now I look for things I can eat that taste good.
There are a lot of things out there that don't taste good (GF or otherwise!) so rule of thumb number one...
JUST BECAUSE IT'S GF DOESN'T MEAN YOU HAVE TO BUY IT.

Cookies, crackers, bread, pasta, cereals, snacks...

It's a trap we all fall into, call it a sense of entitlement but it's a sure fire way to pack the cupboards with things you won't, or shouldn't eat and your family won't either...and to rack up your grocery bill because truth be told, GF eating ain't cheap!
Most of the things we're SUPPOSED to be eating are naturally GF to begin with and I'm convinced, in my case at least, my gluten intolerance stems from a life of too many processed foods to begin with. So I tend to keep the things in boxes to a minimum.

They are good to have every once in a while and a family with kids can't get by without the occasional mac and cheese or spaghetti dinner and you GOTTA have cereal sometimes and of course, there's Beer... so HERE is where we'll list our opines on products that have, and those that have not, worked for us!

Our guidelines today are different than when we started back in '09.
I used to keep a separate cupboard and cook separate food ...that becomes a chore REAL quick.
Except for GF bread, because it's quite pricey, we only buy products that the whole family can eat and enjoy together. Keep in mind, I do not have celiac and can tolerate many of the GF products available from mainline distributors but make sure your needs are met before trying any of these products. I know that what is required for a GF label may not be what is tolerated by all so be sure to check with your nutritionist or physician before trying a new product.
